Construction Documents Technology (CDT) - What it is.

Prior to sitting for the CCS, CCCA and CCPR exams you must have passed the CDT exam.  The Denver Chapter’s CDT classes, typically held prior to the Spring exams, and the exam itself will cover the following state of the arts in construction documents technology.

Agreements, Contract Documents, and Document Relationships:  Project Agreements and their Purpose, Relationship of the Construction Agreement with the Contract Documents, Constraints on the Design and Construction Process, and Project Manual Concepts.

Project Delivery Concepts:  Project Delivery Methods, Options, and Basis of Payment.

Conditions of the Contract:  An overview.

Procurement and Contract Document Modifications - Claims and Disputes:  Changing the Documents, Procedures for Change, Addenda and Modifications, Claims and Disputes, and Avoiding Potential Problems.

Formats:  Formats, Organization of Early Project Information, Organization of the Drawings and Organization of Project Manuals.

Drawings and Specifications:  Drawings, Specifications, Coordination between Drawings and Specifications, and Coordination for Project Delivery.

Both the classes and exam are based on the Project Delivery Practice Guide., the authoritative resource for the organization, preparation, use, and interpretation of construction documents.  The PDPG references both the AIA (architect’s) and EJCDC (engineer’s) contract forms and encompasses the entire life cycle of a facility from conception through facility management.

I will hope that those of you, that have not achieved earning the CDT, will watch this space for more information on our next series of preparaton classes and take the next to being a professional.  More information to follow.
