Stucco, Water Management, and Air Barriers:

Spray or roll applied water-resistant air barriers are becoming a popular choice in new construction because of their duel role as a weather barrier and air barrier, their durability and performance, and increasing energy code requirements.  Check this information on an upcoming presentation on this topic.

Welcome

In Memoriam

Last week, the Denver Chapter of CSI lost a very dear friend.  Jackie Ninneman, our chapter's first executive secretary and grandmother to Michelle Duran, our current executive secretary, lost her long battle with COPD.  Jackie was the “public face” of the Denver chapter for many years, cheerfully greeting everyone who came to a chapter meeting, remembering names and faces much longer than most of us.  Jackie assisted chapter presidents, elected board members, and committee chairs to provide the service to our members, not always because it was part of her job but because she truly cared about the people of the Denver Chapter.  Jackie will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

 CSI Certification News

It's not too early to start thinking about Certification exams. Add to your professional knowledge and credibility in our industry with a CDT Certificate or achieve one of the upper-level Certifications, CCS, CCCA, or CCPR. Note that the Spring exam window will be four weeks long, giving you more options to sit for an exam.  However, if you missed the registration deadline for the Spring exam window, you can still begin preparations for an exam in the Fall.

New topics include sustainability, building information modeling (BIM), and integrated project delivery (IPD).  Vic Palazzini, CSI, CCPR, Denver Chapter certification chair, will soon have information on the chapter's preparation classes, so watch this space.  For more information, click here

If you still are not convinced that you should consider CSI certification, read this post by Randal Reifsnider, or these commentsby some other CSI members!

November 2011 President's Message

Hey CSI, don’t get substituted.

I’ve commented in the past that CSI could stand for the Construction Solutions Institute in lieu of the Construction Specifications Institute.  This concept never rang more clearly to me than after sitting in three different educational programs at CONSTRUCT 2011, where the topic of substitutions  seemed to permeate, then monopolize, the discussion. Read the rest of Mike Young's November article here.

October 2011 President's Message

Why CSI?

Why join, why renew my membership, why participate in the Denver Chapter, CSI?  The answers are as diverse as the membership of CSI.  Read the complete article here.

Why Specify a Level 5 Gypsum Board Finish?

by Liz O’Sullivan

Many design and construction professionals believe that a Level 5 Gypsum Board Finish is required only in special circumstances, such as when gypsum board is to be coated with a high gloss paint.  This practice actually falls far short of the industry standard.  Read more here

AWI vs. WDMA Standards

Do you have specifications for flush wood doors that reference both AWI Section 1300 and the WDMA I.S.1A-04 standards? Has this caused you problems in the bidding stage or worse yet, after doors have arrived at the jobsite?

AWI and WDMA have been developing standards impacting the commercial door industry for decades.
